PCSK1N RNA is highly enriched in pituitary gland and brain and exhibits lower levels in the rest of the human organs. In the mouse, available transcriptomic data suggest a widespread expression across several brain regions. On the protein level, moderate-intensity diffuse/synaptic-type of immunostaining is noticed in multiple brain regions, such as the septum, BNST, globus pallidus, ventral pallidum, several thalamic and hypothalamic nuclei, mossy fibers of the hippocampus, amygdala nuclei, entorhinal cortex, some parts of the midbrain and multiple pontine- and medullar nuclei (including the pericoerulear and parabrachial regions).
