Agouti-related protein is a neuropeptide that acts as an appetite stimulator. In human, it is highly enriched in the hypothalamus, with lower RNA levels in adrenal gland and kidney tissue. In the mouse, predominant expression is seen in hypothalamic fibers, and in synaptic terminals and few cell bodies from selected areas throughout the brain.
