C5orf63 exhibits weak to strong intensity immunostaining in a subset of glial cells (presumably microglia) but mainly in subsets of neurons throughout the entire forebrain. The neuronal pattern is especially strong in the entire neocortex, lateral septum, hypothalamus, hippocampus and amygdala nuclei. In the brainstem, this staining pattern is rather restricted to the substantia nigra, periaqueductal gray and the parabrachial and peri-coerulear regions. In addition, neurons in the medullar facial nucleus (VII) exhibit strong somato-dendritic immunostaining while, in cerebellum, the staining is enriched in glial cells in the Purkinje-cell layer.
