In agreement with earlier protein distribution studies on rodent brain and with RNA data, strong-intensity immunostaining of a limited number of neuronal somas is noticed in the lateral hypothalamus and zona incerta. In addtion, immunostaining of sparse axons is noticed throughout the brain, with higher densities in the septum, preoptic area of the anterior hypothalamus, periaqueductal gray matter and parabrachial-pericoerulear areas. Similarly, transcriptomic databases confirm a hypothalamic enrichment across human tissues too.
