Neurofilament light polypeptide (NEFL) is highly enriched in the nervous system of both human and mouse, with widespread expression across many brain regions. In the mouse, principally axonal and nerve bundle immunoreactivity is observed throughout the brain. Occasionally, cell bodies and their dendritic trees are depicted, like in the neocortical layer V (pyramidal neurons), mitral cells in the olfactory bulb, neurons in the globus pallidus, as well as in several medullar/pontine nuclei.
