News ArticlesSelectivity of anti-GPCR antibodiesIn a recent publication in Science Advances, the selectivity of antibodies against subfamilies of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) was investigated using a multiplexed immunoassay and a customized library of solubilized GPCRs...Read more Antibody validation by gene editingA podcast from Science hosted by the editor Sean Sanders was published on August 1st on the topic of antibody validation and the use of gene editing for genetic validation of research antibodies. The podcast from Science Custom Solutions! is part of a three-part series called "Changing bioscience research using CRISPR-edited cell models" in which bioscientists across a range of research fields are discussing how they are applying and adapting the latest technologies – in particular the most recent advances in CRISPR-based gene editing – to their area of study. The first of the three interviewees is Dr...Read more Antibody ValidationThere is a need for standardized validation methods for antibody specificity and selectivity. A recent article published in Nature Communications by Edfors et al. shows that the five pillars proposed by the International Working Group for Antibody Validation (IWGAV) can be used to validate antibodies for Western Blot applications in a standardized and systematic manner...Read more Validation of antibodies for bioimagingIn a recent publication in Journal of Proteome Research, researchers from the Cell Profiling group of the Human Protein Atlas team present a new approach for validation of antibodies for bioimaging applications. Antibodies are indispensible research tools, yet the scientific community has not adopted standardized procedures to validate their specificity. Here the researchers present a strategy to systematically validate antibodies for immunofluorescence applications using gene tagging. Marie Skogs is the first author of the study. – After a M. Sc...Read more Milestone reached – 50 000 antibodies passedThe Human Protein Atlas has since the first array validated antibody in November 2004 now passed 50 000 protein microarray validated antibodies. The Human Protein Atlas contains information for a large majority of all human protein-coding genes regarding the expression and localization of the corresponding proteins based on both RNA and protein data. For the protein data, antibodies are used to show localization, and now 50 000 antibodies have been produced and verified within the project. – This is a true heroic effort, says professor Peter Nilsson, site director at the SciLifeLab-site in Stockholm...Read more |
